Definition

A crop grown primarily to benefit the soil rather than for harvest: preventing erosion, suppressing weeds, fixing nitrogen, and improving organic matter. Cover crops are sown between cash crop cycles. Common cover crops include cereal rye, crimson clover, hairy vetch, and radishes.
