Somatic Embryogenesis
Definition
The formation of embryo-like structures from somatic (non-reproductive) cells in tissue culture, without fertilization. Somatic embryos can develop into whole plants and are used for clonal propagation of oil palms, conifers, and other species difficult to propagate conventionally.
