Definition

Small, soft-bodied sap-sucking insects that feed in colonies on new plant growth. Aphids reproduce rapidly by parthenogenesis, excrete honeydew that promotes sooty mold, and transmit numerous plant viruses. Natural predators include ladybirds, lacewings, and parasitoid wasps.
