Polyploidy
Definition
The condition of having more than two complete sets of chromosomes. Polyploidy is common in crop plants — bread wheat (Triticum aestivum) is hexaploid (6 sets). Polyploidization often results in larger plant size, improved vigor, and the ability to produce new species.
