Chaparral
Definition
A dense shrubland biome found in California and Baja California, characterized by hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. Dominated by drought- and fire-adapted shrubs (chamise, manzanita, toyon), chaparral has adapted to frequent fire with resprouts or fire-stimulated seed germination.
