Steppe

Definition

A temperate grassland biome of Eurasia and Central Asia, extending from Hungary to China. Characterized by extreme continental climate, low and unpredictable rainfall, and domination by grasses and low shrubs. Steppe soils are fertile but dry; overgrazing leads to desertification.
