Desert
Definition
A biome receiving less than 250 mm of precipitation annually, supporting specialized xerophytic vegetation. Hot deserts (Sahara, Arabian) are dominated by succulents and short-lived annuals; cold deserts (Gobi) by drought-tolerant shrubs. Deserts cover about 33% of Earth's land surface.
