Rhizosphere
Definition
The narrow zone of soil immediately surrounding and influenced by plant roots. Root exudates (sugars, amino acids, organic acids) stimulate intense microbial activity in the rhizosphere, affecting nutrient availability, pathogen suppression, and plant health.
