Abrahamia ditimena is a tree or shrub in the family Anacardiaceae, order Sapindales, endemic to Madagascar. The species epithet ditimena is a Malagasy place name or local designation, reflecting the tradition in Malagasy botanical taxonomy of using local geographic or vernacular terms as specific epithets, which honors the local cultural and geographical identity of plant species. Malagasy place names as botanical epithets often point toward specific forest localities, natural reserves, or river valleys that served as the collection sites for botanical specimens during systematic surveys. Abrahamia ditimena is a member of the genus Abrahamia, a monophyletic group of Malagasy Anacardiaceae comprising over twenty species, all of which are confined to Madagascar. Like other members of the genus and family, this species likely exhibits alternate, simple or pinnately compound leaves with a leathery texture and possibly a glossy upper surface. The bark and woody tissues contain resinous compounds typical of the cashew family, which may be aromatic and in some cases phytochemically significant. The inflorescences are paniculate, bearing numerous small flowers with five petals, five sepals, and a set of stamens surrounding a superior ovary. The fruits are drupes, consistent with the family-wide pattern in Anacardiaceae. Madagascar's endemic Anacardiaceae flora, of which Abrahamia is the most species-rich component, represents a fascinating example of island diversification within a pantropical plant family. The island's forests, where species such as Abrahamia ditimena are found, are among the most threatened ecosystems on Earth, with less than 10 percent of original forest cover remaining across Madagascar.
