Genista legionensis is a spiny dwarf broom endemic to the mountains of northwestern Spain, particularly the Cantabrian range and surrounding uplands near León. It grows in rocky alpine and subalpine habitats, forming dense spiny cushions. As an Iberian endemic, it is part of the exceptionally rich broom flora of the Iberian Peninsula, which represents a major center of diversity for the genus.
