Lonchocarpus nicoyensis

Lonchocarpus nicoyensis is a tree in the legume family native to the Nicoya Peninsula of Costa Rica and adjacent Pacific Central America. It grows in tropical dry forests along the Pacific coast, producing pinnate leaves, clusters of purple to violet pea-shaped flowers, and flattened pods. The genus Lonchocarpus contains species known for ichthyotoxic rotenoids in their roots, which have been used by indigenous peoples for fishing.
