Lupinus acopalcus is a lupine species endemic to the high Andes of Peru, growing in puna grasslands and montane scrubland at elevations above 3,000 meters. It produces dense spikes of colorful pea-type flowers and palmate compound leaves with silky hairs adapted to high-altitude UV radiation and temperature fluctuations. Like many Andean lupines, it plays an important role in nitrogen fixation in high-altitude ecosystems.
