Lupinus huariacus

Lupinus huariacus is a perennial lupine endemic to the Andes of Peru, likely occurring near the Huari region from which its name is derived. It grows in Andean puna grassland and scrubland habitats, producing dense flower spikes with pea-type blooms and palmate leaves covered with silky hairs. Andean lupines like this species are important elements of high-altitude plant communities and help fix atmospheric nitrogen in nutrient-poor mountain soils.
