Neltuma palmeri

Neltuma palmeri is a member of the mesquite alliance in the legume family, native to the Baja California peninsula and adjacent islands of Mexico. It grows as a shrub or small multi-stemmed tree adapted to hot, arid desert conditions, producing bipinnate leaves and yellow flower spikes typical of the genus. The pods are highly nutritious and historically served as a food staple for indigenous peoples of the region.
