Neltuma juliflora

Neltuma juliflora, formerly known as Prosopis juliflora and commonly called mesquite, huarango, or algarrobo, is a thorny shrub or small tree native to Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and northern South America. It produces catkin-like spikes of small yellow-green flowers and long, sweet, edible seed pods that are an important food source for wildlife and livestock. Though native to the Americas, it has become highly invasive in Africa, Asia, and Australia, rapidly colonizing degraded lands.
