Tachigali paniculata is a large canopy tree native to the Amazon basin and Guiana Shield in South America, belonging to the subfamily Caesalpinioideae. It can reach heights exceeding 30 meters in tropical lowland rainforest, producing paniculate inflorescences of small flowers and winged samara-like fruits adapted for wind dispersal. Notably, many Tachigali species are monocarpic, flowering and fruiting only once before dying, earning the group the name suicide trees.
