Crown Rot
Definition
Disease causing decay of the crown — the junction of stem and root at the soil surface. Often caused by Phytophthora or Sclerotinia, crown rot is promoted by waterlogging, mulch against the stem, and soil compaction. It can rapidly kill otherwise healthy plants.
