A coastal wetland ecosystem dominated by salt-tolerant trees and shrubs (mangroves) that grow in inter-tidal zones of tropical and subtropical coasts. Mangroves provide critical nursery habitat for fish, protect coastlines from erosion and storm surge, and store exceptional amounts of carbon.
