Amherstia nobilis, known as pride of Burma or orchid tree, is a small to medium-sized tree native to Myanmar, widely considered one of the most beautiful flowering trees in the world. It produces spectacular drooping racemes of large crimson and gold flowers up to 13 centimeters across, with emerging leaf flushes that are initially deep red and pendulous. The tree is rare in the wild but widely cultivated throughout tropical Asia and elsewhere for its extraordinary ornamental value.
