Inga marginata, commonly known as the shimbillo or border inga, is a medium-sized tree native to tropical South America and Central America, widely planted for shade in coffee and cacao plantations. Its species epithet refers to the winged or marginate rachis typical of the species. Like other ice cream bean trees, it produces cylindrical white flower spikes and elongated pods containing seeds surrounded by sweet edible white pulp.
