Anadenanthera macrocarpa

Anadenanthera macrocarpa

Anadenanthera macrocarpa, known as curupay or angico, is a large tree native to dry forests and cerrado savanna of South America, particularly Argentina, Bolivia, and Brazil. It produces bipinnate leaves, small white globose flower heads, and large curved pods with circular seeds rich in tannins. The bark is widely used in South American traditional medicine and for tanning leather, and the seeds contain psychoactive tryptamines historically used in indigenous ceremonies.
