The genus Calliandra contains around 200 species of shrubs and small trees native to the Americas, recognized by their showy powder-puff-like flowers with prominent colored stamens. This species grows in lowland and foothill forests along the Magdalena watershed, producing characteristic bipinnate leaves and fluffy flower heads.
