Lupinus falsomutabilis is a perennial lupine species endemic to the Andes of Peru, growing in montane grassland, puna, and scrubland habitats at high elevations. It produces dense erect spikes of variably colored pea-type flowers and silvery-hairy palmate leaves adapted to intense Andean sunlight and temperature extremes. The species epithet suggests a resemblance to another species, Lupinus mutabilis, the cultivated Andean lupin or tarwi.
