Abrahamia littoralis is a tree or shrub in the family Anacardiaceae, order Sapindales, endemic to Madagascar. The specific epithet littoralis means of or pertaining to the shore or coast, indicating that this species grows in coastal or near-coastal habitats, distinguishing it ecologically from most other members of the genus Abrahamia, which primarily inhabit inland forest types. Coastal plants face specific ecological challenges including salt spray, high wind exposure, sandy or rocky substrates with low nutrient content, periodic flooding by seawater, and intense solar radiation, and species adapted to these conditions often develop morphological and physiological specializations such as succulent leaves, deep root systems, and salt-tolerant physiology. Abrahamia littoralis may therefore represent a coastal or strand specialist within the genus, adapted to the specific conditions of Madagascar's shoreline vegetation. Madagascar's coastline is diverse, encompassing tropical sandy beaches, rocky headlands, mangrove systems, and coastal dry forests, each supporting a distinct plant community. Coastal dry forests are particularly species-rich in Madagascar and harbor many endemic plant species, including members of the Anacardiaceae. As a member of the cashew family, Abrahamia littoralis possesses the family-typical features of alternate leaves, resinous aromatic tissues, paniculate inflorescences of small five-petaled flowers, and drupaceous fruits. The fruits of coastal Anacardiaceae species are sometimes adapted for dispersal by ocean currents or coastal birds. The genus Abrahamia comprises over twenty species, all endemic to Madagascar, and represents one of the most important endemic elements of the island's Anacardiaceae flora.
