Phaseolus coccineus

Phaseolus coccineus, commonly known as scarlet runner bean, is a robust climbing vine native to the mountains of Mexico and Central America, widely cultivated worldwide as an ornamental and edible plant. It produces striking scarlet-red flowers that attract hummingbirds, followed by large flat pods containing speckled purple-black seeds that are edible when young or dried. Unlike common beans, it is perennial in frost-free climates and develops thick tuberous roots.
