Pithecellobium johansenii

Pithecellobium johansenii is a tree or shrub in the blackbead genus native to Central America or Mexico, growing in tropical dry and moist forests. It produces globose or cylindrical flower heads with numerous stamens and bipinnately compound leaves, bearing contorted, twisted seed pods characteristic of the genus that are often brightly colored to attract birds. The genus name means ape earring, referring to the distinctive curved pods.
