Abrahamia delphinensis is a member of the family Anacardiaceae, order Sapindales, endemic to Madagascar. The specific epithet delphinensis refers to the Dauphin region, historically known as Fort Dauphin and now called Tôlanaro, situated in the extreme southeastern corner of Madagascar. This region represents a transitional zone between the humid eastern rainforest belt and the subhumid to dry vegetation of the south, supporting a distinctive mix of forest types and an exceptionally high number of endemic plant species. The area around Tôlanaro is recognized as one of Madagascar's most botanically rich localities, and several Malagasy plant species carry the epithet delphinensis in recognition of their type locality in this area. Abrahamia delphinensis is a woody plant with the morphological characteristics typical of the Anacardiaceae family. It likely grows as a tree or shrub with alternate, leathery leaves, resinous bark and woody tissues producing aromatic compounds, paniculate inflorescences of small five-petaled flowers, and drupaceous fruits with a fleshy exterior and a hard-stoned seed. The genus Abrahamia was established to accommodate a group of endemic Malagasy Anacardiaceae previously placed in other genera, and it now includes more than twenty species all restricted to Madagascar. The southeastern forests of Madagascar, where Abrahamia delphinensis is likely found, are critically threatened by deforestation and agricultural encroachment, making the conservation of endemic species such as this one particularly urgent. The Anacardiaceae family is placed in the order Sapindales, which also includes the maple family, Sapindaceae, citrus family, Rutaceae, and the frankincense and myrrh family, Burseraceae.
