Chamaecrista wittei is a legume native to central Africa, named after the Belgian botanist Gaston Witte who collected plants in the Congo region. It grows in the woodlands and open savannas of the Congo basin, producing the characteristic yellow flowers and compound sensitive leaves of the Chamaecrista genus. The plant is an important component of miombo woodland ecosystems where it fixes atmospheric nitrogen.
