Lonchocarpus spiciflorus

Lonchocarpus spiciflorus is a tree or large shrub native to Central America and Mexico, growing in tropical dry and moist forests. It produces spicate racemes of purple to violet flowers and pinnate leaves, with flat one-to-few-seeded pods characteristic of the genus. Several Lonchocarpus species contain rotenone in their roots and have been used as fish poisons and insecticides by indigenous peoples.
