The genus Lysiloma contains mimosoid trees of tropical dry forests in the Caribbean and Mesoamerica. This species has a spreading, open branching pattern as its epithet indicates and produces the bipinnate leaves, white globose flower heads, and flat pods characteristic of the genus.
