Machaerium pittieri is a climbing liana or shrub in the legume family native to Central America, named in honor of the Swiss naturalist Henri François Pittier who extensively botanized in Central America. It produces pinnate leaves and small pea-shaped flowers, climbing through tropical forest vegetation. The genus Machaerium produces distinctive one-seeded samaroid winged fruits adapted for wind dispersal.
