Abolboda killipii is a species of herbaceous monocot in the family Xyridaceae, order Poales, named in honor of Ellsworth Paine Killip, the early twentieth-century American botanist who contributed significantly to the systematic study of Neotropical flora. This species is native to the tropical regions of South America, particularly the Guiana Highlands and surrounding lowland savannas, where Xyridaceae plants reach their greatest diversity. Like other members of the genus Abolboda, this plant is adapted to grow in open, sunny, wetland or seasonally waterlogged environments characterized by nutrient-poor, often sandy or lateritic soils with low pH. The vegetative body consists of a rosette of linear to narrowly lanceolate leaves, rigid and somewhat stiff in texture, arising from a short basal stem. These leaves are typical of plants adapted to exposed savanna conditions and bear the structural reinforcement needed to withstand strong winds and heavy rain. The flowering scape rises well above the leafy rosette and terminates in a compact spike or head bearing small, three-petaled flowers characteristic of the family. The flowers of Abolboda species are typically blue to violet, providing a striking visual contrast against the pale grasses and sedges of their savanna habitat. Abolboda killipii occurs in ecosystems of high conservation value, including the Gran Sabana of Venezuela and the tepui archipelago, which harbor globally significant levels of plant endemism. These landscapes are part of the ancient Guiana Shield, one of the oldest geological formations on Earth, contributing to the evolutionary uniqueness of the plant communities they support. The Xyridaceae family is a small but ecologically important family within the monocot order Poales.
