Lupinus hispanicus is an annual or perennial herbaceous lupine native to the Iberian Peninsula and northwestern Africa, growing in open dry habitats, sandy soils, and scrublands. It bears palmate leaves with multiple leaflets and produces elongated racemes of blue to violet pea-shaped flowers typical of the lupine genus. The plant is adapted to poor, acidic, and sandy soils where it fixes atmospheric nitrogen through root symbioses.
