The asphodel family (~900 species, ~40 genera). Bulbous or rhizomatous herbs with basal linear leaves and racemose flowers. Includes aloes (Aloe), red-hot pokers (Kniphofia), and day-lilies (Hemerocallis). Africa to Eurasia.
