Canavalia brasiliensis

Canavalia brasiliensis, the Brazilian jackbean, is a climbing or prostrate vine in the legume family native to Brazil and neighboring South American countries. Like other Canavalia species it produces large purple to pink flowers and thick, elongated pods containing large seeds. The plant is used as a cover crop, green manure, and forage in tropical agriculture, though the raw seeds contain toxic canavine and must be cooked thoroughly before consumption.
