Lupinus mexicanus is an annual or perennial herbaceous lupine native to Mexico and Central America, growing in open montane habitats, pine-oak forests, and disturbed roadsides at higher elevations. It produces palmate leaves with multiple narrow leaflets and tall racemes of blue to purple flowers typical of the lupine genus. Like other lupines, it fixes atmospheric nitrogen and can colonize nitrogen-poor volcanic or degraded soils.
